About the project

The research project MCTI/FAPESP MENTORED (From Modeling to Experimentation: Predicting and Detecting DDoS and Zero-day attacks) in Cybersecurity has four (3) postdoctoral fellowship open positions in Brazil. Successful candidates must have completed his/her Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent less than seven years ago. The candidate must provide a history of relevant research in areas such as Computer Networks, Network Security, or the Internet of Things.

Research project

This project aims to identify, model, and evaluate malicious behavior associated with IoT to help in the construction of advanced and coordinated solutions to enable the prevention, prediction, detection, and mitigation of DDoS attacks. The successful candidates will work actively in one of the work packages described below.

  • Work package 1: IoT traffic monitoring and DDoS attack prevention. The Postdoctoral fellow will perform the following tasks: the development and planning of monitoring infrastructure placement; the characterization of IoT devices and the detection of impersonation attacks; and the study and proposition of mechanisms for the dynamic reconfiguration of compliance policies in addition to assist in writing scientific articles and reports, defining experiments and analyzing the results.

  • Work package 3: IoT attacks detection. The Postdoctoral fellow will perform the following tasks: advance the literature survey, the characterization of attack behavior at network and application levels, the study and proposition of detection mechanisms for IoT environments, and also write scientific articles and reports, define experiments and analyze results;

  • Work package 4: Experimental environment for cybersecurity. The Postdoctoral fellow will perform the following tasks: advance the literature survey on other experimental environments for cybersecurity and understand them, assistance to students and other fellowship holders involved in the work package 4, assistance in documenting advances achieved in the experimental environments and write scientific reports and articles, as well as assistance in defining experiments and analyzing the results.
